International news :- Tracks from New Roads have been played on Australian radio show "Music from Foggy Hollow", by Mike Kear. This show is also broadcast on the Web, and has already generated interest in the States. We've been asked to play at a couple of U.S. festivals, although it's unlikely we'll manage over this year.
The band was formed in February 2003 from the remnants of the Runaway String Band, with the addition of a former Goldrush member. Robert "Stevie" Stevenson is the main vocalist, and plays guitar, string bass and mandolin. Robin Wallace plays mandolin, banjo, guitar and Dobro. Hugh Kelly is the bassist who doubles on Dobro. The pair also swap bass and baritone harmonies. Jim Hyndman is sometime lead vocalist, main tenor harmony, and plays fiddle, banjo, mandolin and guitar. This obviously makes for an extremely versatile line-up. |
The music is a mixture of hard-driving traditional Bluegrass, Gospel and smoother contemporary material. The key to the band's sound is Big Stevie's powerhouse vocal, which is highly regarded in the British Bluegrass community. Couple this to the driving rhythm, sparkling instrumental acrobatics, and close harmonies that the individual members are known for, and you just know it makes sense for them to be playing together as a tight unit. Our intention is to showcase the range of sounds that Bluegrass music has to offer, and to have fun doing so. |
